Overview
To become a key operational leader within Group Finance, acting as the deputy to the Group Finance Manager and supporting the delivery of financial control, management reporting and finance operations across a growing multi-entity Group.
The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day financial delivery, including month-end close, management accounts, balance sheet control, cashflow reporting, consolidations and intercompany accounting. They will provide first-line support to the finance team, review outputs before escalation and help ensure deadlines, controls and reporting standards are consistently achieved.
This is a hands-on role focused on delivery, team support and continuous improvement. Strategic leadership, Board reporting, banking relationships and overall Group financial governance will remain the responsibility of the Group Finance Manager, with this role strengthening the operational capability and scalability of the wider finance function.
Role Specific Tasks
A. Lead the month-end close process across multiple Group entities, ensuring deadlines are achieved and financial information is accurate and complete.
B. Prepare and review monthly management accounts, including detailed variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
C. Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, maintaining robust month-end controls and complete working paper files.
D. Support Group consolidations and manage intercompany accounting, including reconciliations, recharges and the resolution of differences across entities.
E. Prepare regular cashflow forecasts and liquidity reporting, monitoring working capital performance and highlighting emerging risks or requirements.
F. Support budget monitoring and forecasting activities, providing accurate financial information and analysis to assist operational decision-making.
G. Identify financial performance trends, risks and opportunities and provide clear analysis to the Group Finance Manager and relevant operational stakeholders.
H. Support the preparation of annual statutory accounts and provide accurate schedules, working papers and information required for the external audit process.
I. Ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial records, management reporting and finance system outputs across the Group.
J. Continuously review and improve finance processes, controls and ways of working to increase consistency, efficiency and scalability as the business grows.
K. Provide day-to-day support, coaching and guidance to finance team members, including Management Accountants, apprentices and junior colleagues.
L. Review finance team outputs before escalation to the Group Finance Manager, supporting quality control, workload prioritisation and effective resource allocation.
M. Act as the first point of escalation for operational finance issues, resolving matters where appropriate and escalating material or strategic issues to the Group Finance Manager.
N. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement within Group Finance, remaining willing to work within the detail to ensure high-quality financial delivery.
The responsibilities outlined are representative of the principal duties associated with the role. All colleagues are expected to adopt a flexible approach, undertaking additional duties commensurate with the role and contributing to the wider success of the business where required.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will already be operating as a Senior Management Accountant, Finance Manager or in a similar hands-on finance role, with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience and strong exposure to management accounts, month-end control and balance sheet reconciliations within a multi-entity environment.
They will have practical experience of Group reporting and consolidations, intercompany accounting, cashflow forecasting and financial control, together with advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to organise competing priorities and solve problems effectively.
The successful candidate will enjoy operational ownership and supporting the development of a growing finance function. They will be comfortable reviewing outputs, coaching junior team members and ensuring deadlines are consistently achieved, while acting as a trusted deputy to the Group Finance Manager rather than operating solely at a strategic level.
This role is particularly suited to someone from an SME, owner-managed or growing multi-entity business where broad financial responsibility and hands-on involvement are essential.
